Building Your Future with BHHS Homesale Realty

Become an Agent in 2017

2017 is almost here.  If one of your resolutions is to start a new career as a real estate agent, then your future may have never looked brighter.  Successful real estate agents often look at their choice to start a real estate career as one of the best decisions they ever made, but that doesn't mean becoming an agent is easy. It all starts with an an interest in real estate, willingness to learn and a drive for success. If you've got those traits, then it's time to take the next steps toward becoming a real estate agent.

The process starts with learning about the licensing requirements of your state and the requirements can differ somewhat substantially from one state to the next. You can look up the licensing requirements for your state online, and doing so will help you focus your energy more efficiently as you prepare to become a real estate agent.

  • Start Studying – The best real estate agents never stop learning, and aspiring agents will definitely want to set aside plenty of time to study. While passing the licensing exam is naturally a priority when studying, remember that what you learn should serve you well long after the exam is completed. Studying the techniques and regulations of the real estate industry will also help you decide whether real estate is the right fit for you.
  • Start Saving – You don't need a huge marketing budget to get started, but you'll definitely want to save some money for licensing and start-up costs. Since real estate is a commission-based industry, it's also a good idea to have some savings set aside to cover your day-to-day needs while you establish your real estate career.
  • Pick a Brokerage – It's incredibly beneficial to have an experienced team at your side as you get started. Joining a brokerage like BHHS Homesale Realty gives you access to advanced marketing tools, the latest training, and the advice of experienced agents who were once in your shoes as newcomers. It's also quite a bit of fun.
  • Get Your License – Once you're prepared for the exam, it's time to get your real estate license. There are fees for taking the test and acquiring your license, so this is one place where those savings you set aside will come in handy. You can learn more about fees by looking up your state's real estate commission website.
  • MLS Approved – Membership in your local Multiple Listing Service (MLS) is a must for real estate agents, so it's something you'll want to get out of the way ASAP. The cost varies pretty significantly by state, but even on the high end it's worth it.
  • Spread the Word – Experienced agents have the opportunity to build a reputation in their local business community, but new agents are often starting from scratch. Sort of. Even though there aren't any people who know about your experience in real estate, you likely have many friends, family members, and peers who know and trust you. Even if these people are looking for homes themselves, they may be able to refer business your way.

Having the right team at your side can make all the difference in starting your career on the right foot, and our team would love to help you get started.
