Blogging for Your Real Estate Business

Why a Real Estate Blog is Good for Your Business

People who join BHHS Homesale Realty as real estate agents come to us with varied educational backgrounds and career experiences.  Our company has earned a reputation in the local real estate area as one who provides its agents with quality training, technology and marketing to ensure they succeed in their chosen career.

Today's real estate clients are internet-savvy.  The National Association of REALTORS® and Google have told us that 90 percent of home buyers searched online during their home buying process.  Consequently, one of the first things we instill into our sales team is to build their real estate business through online marketing.  A great way to develop your online presence is by blogging.

Blogging gives you the opportunity to offer helpful information to clients and potential clients and allows you to display your credibility, knowledge and experience. To create a successful blog, give your audience the information they are looking for. Before you dive in, there are some rules of thumb every good marketer follows.

Basic Real Estate Blogging Tips to Get You Started

Sometimes real estate agents hesitate to start blogging because they feel they don't have the skills or time to get the job done.  It's not too hard to create an effective and interesting real estate blog with some pre-planning and following our basic blogging tips:

  • Determine your target audience.

  • Pick topics you believe are relevant to your audience and will want to better understand.

If you know you have a younger demographic that wants to find all the hot places in their future neighborhood, do a series of "the best of" the city or neighborhood you specialize in. Other clients love to dream about what they might find, so doing features on top listings may be your best bet.

Make sure to add articles on the buying/selling process, market trends and other information that demonstrates your expertise.

  • Create a blogging calendar. Haphazardly posting an occasional blog is not the best practice.  Post a blog at least once a week to build your audience.  Reaping the rewards from your blogging may take some time, but the larger the library you build, the better.

  • If you are still squeamish about writing, you can hire someone to do the writing for you.

  • Keep adapting and changing your topics. Monitor which of your blogs are the most popular so you are certain to focus on what your audience likes the best.

Some common real estate blog topics include:
    - Featured properties
    - New listings
    - Neighborhood/city highlights and popular spots
    - Mortgage info
    - Home maintenance tips
    - Market predictions
    - Buying/selling a home
