Setting the Stage for Success in 2024: Your Home Sale Careers Game Plan

In many places, the market slows down around the end of the year. But now is the perfect time to lay the right groundwork for success in the coming year. One reason why Homesale Realty agents are so effective is their dedication to applying lessons learned and adjusting their approaches over time.

As a real estate agent, you're bound to get plenty of conflicting advice about the end of the year. "Take some time off!" "Be sure you're listing right up until December 31!" "Follow up with EVERYBODY!" The best thing to do is step back and methodically use your time to benefit you for the whole year.

Setting effective goals is the key. Here's how to get started:

  • Reflect on 2023
What went right and wrong for you in 2023? The twists and turns of your career might be difficult to recall, so it helps to write it all down. Break it down by month if you can. Where did you encounter difficulty? Where were your unexpected successes? This will give you your first glimpse of potential areas to focus on in the new year.

  • Envision the Ideal 2025
That's not a typo. To get started with your great new 2024, you should begin with the end in mind. What do you want to achieve in the coming year that would excite you about January 1, 2025? Ask yourself questions like how many clients you would work with, what types of clients they are, and what your day would look like.

  • Identify the Gaps Between Today and Your Ideal
Once you flesh out your ideal for a little while, you'll be able to backtrack and figure out where you are now in relationship to that vision. For instance, if you imagine working with 30 clients a month, you'd be in a different place than if you imagine working with only three ultra-high-value clients every month.

  • Understand How You'll Measure Your Success
Once you know where you are and where you want to be, you need to identify the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that show you you're on your way. The real estate agent who wants lots more clients needs to measure acquisition, while the one who wants fewer, higher-value clients needs to focus on Gross Commission Income.

  • Come Up With Quarterly Goals for 2024
With your ultimate objective and KPIs in hand, you can start working backward from January 1, 2025, to know which benchmarks you want to hit each quarter of the year. This way, you will always know if you're heading in the right direction.

  • Break Those Goals Down By Month
Thinking in terms of quarters can be impractical, especially if you're just one person who "wears many hats." Break the quarterly view down into monthly goals where you make incremental progress each month. Try to have no more than three priorities for each month.

  • Turn Monthly Priorities into Action
Last but not least, you will be down to the weekly level. Rather than trying to build a detailed to-do list, simply block off focused time of at least 30 minutes a day for each priority. It may not seem like much, but it adds up.
