Holiday Planning - New Real Estate Agents - BHHS Homesale Careers

Wondering why Homesale Realty is the best around? Because our agents never miss out on an opportunity—and that includes in the holiday season!

The holiday season has a bad rap for real estate because it's when listings (and interest in them!) tend to ramp down. Prospecting can be a bit more challenging than other times of the year. Still, you can get a lot done in December if you know how to use it right.

Let's look at some of the best ways to end the year strong in real estate:

  1. Focus on Engaging Sellers
Sellers tend to get anxious that buyers won't bite during the slow season. They've probably already been advised that buyers are scarce, but they are motivated to try anyway. Remind them that buyers who are active in November and December tend to move the fastest. Listing in the winter will get attention from a smaller but much more energetic audience.

  2. Set New 2020 Appointments
Resistance to setting new appointments tends to go way down as year's end approaches—as long as you don't push too hard. People are much happier to set appointments when they feel like they're putting something off until next year. If you approach leads the right way, you may be able to fill your calendar for January even if new December business is rare.

  3. Tap Your Former Clients
No matter what your old clients celebrate, there's never a better time to get in touch with them. A quick check-in for the new year doesn't seem pushy, but it can result in referrals. The winter holidays tend to be a time when families gather around the table to talk about future plans—but rarely does anyone have a real estate agent in mind. You can be that person!

  4. Set Goals and Design Plans
December is the best time to look back on where you've been and figure out where you're going. There's simply no better time to take a breather. Look at your day-to-day business processes and ask yourself what isn't working. Nobody can predict the future, but you can develop goals that you'll pursue for the first quarter of 2020. That way, you'll be making progress from the start!

  5. Expand Your Horizons
When business dies down, there's only so far you can push. Now is the time to "sharpen the saw." Take on an optional project such as a new real estate designation or certification. Look at the technologies your practice uses and pick something fresh to add to your toolkit. You may not be able to master a new skill in a few weeks, but you can get off to a running start with new advantages.

  6. Make Marketing a Priority
Marketing takes a while to get off the ground, especially digital marketing. Invest time and energy during the slow season, and it could pay off just as the new year rolls around. Instead of an open house, take time to pick topics and write for your blog. Get more active on social media or think about ways to integrate photos and videos into your current marketing initiatives.

Still not sure about the best way to use your time? An outside perspective can help. Connecting with experienced real estate mentors may be exactly what you need to figure it all out.
